Starting GeNet

To begin using GeNet you need a user ID, password, and the web address of your GeNet installation. Obtain these from your GeNet administrator.

1. Point your web browser to the proper GeNet address.
2. Log on by entering your user name and password. Both the user ID and password are case sensitive.

Note: Depending on how your version of GeNet was set up by your system administrator, there may also be a Login as Guest button that allows new or infrequent users to use GeNet without a Username or password.

3. Click the Log In button. the Genome to Browse window appears.

4. Select the genome you would like to view by clicking the radio button next to its name.

Sometimes a blue hyperlink labeled "New Data!" may appear next to one or more of the selectable genomes. This means that someone has uploaded new data to that genome since your last GeNet session. Click this link to view a list of data uploaded since your last session.

To select an item, click the radio button next to it and click the Select button. If you are not interested in any of the new data, click Cancel.

5. Once you have chosen a genome to view, click the Continue button to access the main GeNet screen.

This screen has two sections: the Navigator and the Main Viewing Window. From the Navigator, you can select the data to be displayed in the Main Viewing Window.
