Filtering Data

One of the most powerful features in GeNet is the ability to limit the quantity and type of data that appears in the navigator. This is especially useful when you are navigating through a GeNet that is populated with hundreds of different experiments and gene lists in each genome. This feature allows you to work with a restricted navigator that contains only the data that you find interesting.

To filter data objects:

  1. Enter as many terms as necessary in the list of filtering fields.
  2. Filtering results contain only items that match all of the terms.
  3. Use the pull-down menu on the left to specify how each filtering term should be used:
      • Contains-matches any item containing the search term within the specified field
      • Equals-matches exact occurrences of the filtering term which do not contain additional characters to the left or right
      • Starts With-matches items that begin with the specified filtering term
      • Does Not Contain-matches items that contain no occurrences of the filtering term
  4. If desired, specify beginning and ending upload dates.
  5. Select one of the sorting criteria in the Sort By list. This determines the order in which search results appear.
  6. Click the Filter button at the top of the page.
GeNet returns you to the main navigation screen. The navigator panel displays only items that passed your filtering criteria. To restore the navigator to the full view, return to the Filtering page, leave all the fields blank and hit the Filter button.
